English Language
Overall Aims
Refer to the English Language Curriculum Guide (Primary 1 – 6), the overall aims of the English language curriculum in Hong Kong are:
- to provide greater opportunities for ESL learners to use English for purposeful communication both inside and outside the classroom; and
- to prepare students for the changing socio-economic demands resulting from advances in information technology; these demands include the interpretation, use and production of materials; and
- to promote language development strategies, values and attitudes that are conducive to effective, independent and lifelong learning.
Objectives
The Department of English aims
- To cultivate students’ interest in English-learning and foster a consistent reading habit, we are eager to:
- promote the core value of the school year through the extensive reading programme ‘Reading is FUNtastic!’; and
- stretch students’ vocabulary with theme-related activities.
- To strengthen students’ learning efficiency and enrich their language learning experience, we are determined to:
- cater for the diverse learning needs of students by extending the DTS programme to KS2; and
- develop self-directed learning by incorporating reciprocal learning of reading in lessons and utilise Google Suite as a collaborative learning platform where students would be able to access a wide variety of language activities.
